Harry Bloy Salutes Simon Fraser University’s 40th Anniversary
Victoria – In a statement yesterday at the Legislative Assembly in Victoria, Harry Bloy, MLA for Burquitlam paid tribute to Simon Fraser University’s 40th Anniversary and described the events that occurred over the weekend, marking the celebration.
Calling SFU, “the heart and soul of Burnaby and the riding of Burquitlam,” Bloy informed the Legislature that, “SFU has grown rapidly over the past 40 years and is recognized around the world for its high academic standards and achievements.”
During his statement, Bloy notified his fellow MLAs of the activities that took place over the weekend including the sold-out first graduate class luncheon, department and faculty reunions, and the keynote address by Dr. Michael Stevenson, the President and Vice-Chancellor of SFU. He also mentioned distinguished SFU alumni including Terry Fox, Francesco Aquilini, co-owner of the Vancouver Canucks, Peter Legge, a noted philanthropist and motivational speaker who is leading SFU’s capital fundraising efforts, and Premier Gordon Campbell.
Bloy concluded his statement and asked the Legislature join him in congratulating, “SFU for their first 40 years of achievements and wising them all the best for the next 40 years of continued development and progress, leading British Columbia into the future.”
