Bloy Crops Thorpe's Ministerial Mop
VICTORIA – Small Business and Revenue Minster Rick Thorpe got more a close shave today courtesy of Harry Bloy, MLA for Burquitlam in support of cancer care in B.C.
Thorpe, the MLA for Okanagan – Westside had his head completely shaved, following through on his promise to give up his hair in exchange for a $1,000 bid Bloy made at last year’s Sindi Hawkins and Friends Charity Golf Classic for Cancer Care.
“I can’t think of a more worthy cause to give up my hair for than cancer care here in British Columbia,” says Thorpe. “I have more appreciation now than ever before for the enormous impact cancer can have on a family since my sister has been diagnosed with lung cancer. I want to support her and all British Columbians affected by this terrible disease.”
Bloy has been a long-time supporter of cancer care and research, having raised $5,000 in donations to the BC Cancer Foundation to have his long hair and trademark ponytail snipped last year.
“Every dollar we can raise towards combating cancer makes a difference,” says Bloy. “I’m proud of the work Sindi and the BC Cancer Foundation do, and I’m proud to be able to join Rick Thorpe in supporting this worthwhile organization. I would encourage other from across B.C. to give generously as well so we can beat cancer once and for all.”
