Harry joined Premier Campbell, Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon and MLAs Randy Hawes, Iain Black and Mary Polak and broke ground on the site of what will be a new seven-lane bridge across the Pitt River. The provincial government is providing $108 million and the federal government $90 million for the construction of the bridge and a new interchange at Lougheed Highway and Mary Hill Bypass. Since 2004, I have promoted literacy by giving a book to every Kindergarten student in my constituency. Each year starting in January I visit the Kindergarten classrooms in my riding to hand out books and visit with students. The new program, is designed to build on the strengths of B.C.'s post-secondary education system while discovering new approaches to expand the network of learning opportunities across the province. Mr. Plant has been named as the special advisor to the leadership team for Campus 2020: Thinking Ahead. The BC Government proclaimed June 25th to 30th as Legion Week in British Columbia to honour their work in assisting Veterans and our military personnel.

On June 12, 2006, Harry presented Wendy Cooper from Youth Matters! with a cheque for $92,000 towards supporting programs that assist young British Columbians.
Harry, standing outside his Community Office on May 26, 2006, points out a report by the Ministry of Advanced Education concerning the fact B.C.'s universities granted over 2,300 teaching degrees this year.
There are almost 27,000 full-time teaching positions throughout the province. Every year, Harry personally delivers a book to each-and-every kindergarten student in the constituency.
On May 23, 2006 Harry visited Cameron Elementary School to deliver the books and read with the students. On May 19, 2006 Harry popped-in to visit Alderson Elementary's kindergarten class as part of his commitment to give all kindergarten students in the riding a book to encourage reading.
Continuing on his tour to visit every kindergarten class in his constituency and deliver a book to each student, Harry paid a visit to Harbour View Elementry School on May 19, 2006.
On May 19, 2006, Harry visited kindergarten students at Lord Baden-Powell Elementary to personally deliver a book to each pupil and to stress the importance of reading.
As part of his pledge to give a book to every kindergarten student in the constituency, Harry was at Miller Park Elementary School on May 19, 2006.
On May 13, 2006, Environment Minister Barry Penner helped Harry at the annual Great Salmon Send Off at Stoney Creek Elementary School.

Harry recently toured the Burnaby General Hospital to see first hand the great work the province's health care professionals do in assiting British Columbians.

On May 12, 2006 Harry, along with Intergovernmental Relations minister John van Dongen, joined the celebrations and presented the school with a cheque for $5,000. As part of the 100th Anniversary of the Vancouver Japanese Language School, Harry had an opportunity to meet members of the Japanese-Canadian community.

Harry also presented the Oakdale Child Care Society with a cheque for over $4,900 to help them provide for the kids. Harry helped open the Burnaby Village Museum at an event held on May 6, 2006 and presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Dennis Brown.

Grant Presentation - Fraser-Burrard Community
On April 21, 2006, Harry presented a $2,500 grant to Sandy Burpee of the Fraser-Burrard Community Justice Society to assist them in their work promoting a better society. On April 20th, Harry visited Port Moody to discuss his role as an MLA. Chance to Choose is a program set up by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to help entrepreneurs to overcome barriers when establishing
small businesses. Harry had the opportunity to attend the Burnaby NOW newspaper's Best of Burnaby Awards ceremony. Held on April 19, 2006, they are a chance to honour the city's outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs.
On March 24, 2006, Harry presented Gerry Herkel, President of the Burnaby Hospice Society, with a certificate of congratulations in recognition of the Hospice's new Thrift Store.

Over 200 people attended Harry’s second Accessing Provincial Grants Seminar in Burnaby. This helped a variety of non-profit organizations have a better chance of securing funding, thanks to Harry.
